Obviously, to watch the Twins at play, you would need to buy Twins tickets to the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in downtown Minneapolis. The Metrodome is a beautiful covered stadium that glows translucently in the evening lights and watching a game there is pure pleasure as you sit under the covers insulated perfectly from the weather. The Hubert H. Humphrey is the fourth stadium to have a complete roof and it is no surprise that the same company has executed all of these. It seems to be a niche skill. Your Twins ticket to the Metrodome guarantees you a great game, untroubled by weather.
The Metrodome
The Metrodome was conceived in the late seventies. Construction began in late 1979 and the stadium was formally opened in early 1982. Fans who buy Twins tickets for the first time are amazed at the 20 acre stadium with a 10 acre Teflon / fiberglass roof that rises 195 feet at the highest point. The total covered volume is around 60 million cubic feet and air is pumped in at around 250,000 cubic feet just to keep the roof inflated! Talk about a stadium that breathes! Fans enter through semi sealed revolving doors that keep the air from leaking out and the stadium cost $68 million when it was built.
The stadium has an electrically raised pitcher’s mound. The mound weighs a gigantic 23000 pounds and is 18 feet across. It is raised by using a remote controlled device.
Such a beautiful stadium was bound to attract great attention and excitement. It remains the only stadium in the world to have hosted the All-Star Game (in 1985), the World Series (twice, in 1987 and 1991), the Super Bowl (in 1992) and the Final Four Basketball Tournament (NCAA in 1992 & 2001). Needless to say, every fan who bought tickets to the Metrodome considers himself lucky and the souvenirs are traded even today.
That is not to say that the stadium has been without its problems. There have been occasions when people bought Teins tickets but had to wait for the game to begin. Basically, its problems all largely originated from its roof. At least on three different occasions, tears in the roof have delayed the start of games. All three were in the nineteen eighties and were caused due to heavy snow. Apparently, the owners have solved that problem because it has been more than twenty years since the last tear on the roof. If you buy tickets today, you are quite assured of a game – come rain or shine.
