Tennessee Titans Football, founded in the year 1960, is a professional American football team based in Nashville, Tennessee. The Titans Football team is currently a member of the Southern Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). Initially known as the Houston Oilers, the team won two AFL championships before it joined the NFL as part of the AFL-NFL Merger. The team moved to Memphis for one season before finally moving to the state of Tennessee in 1997. For the year 1997-98 the team was called the state of Tennessee Oilers and in 1999 it changed its name to Titans. Tennessee Titans Football EraThe Tennessee Titans Football team is owned by Bud Adams. The head coach for the team is Jeff Ficher. The Titans won the first-ever AFL championship over the Los Angeles Chargers in 1960 and repeated the same victory in 1961. However, they lost to the Dallas Texans in 1962. They won the AFL Eastern Division title again in 1967. With star performers like Elvin Bethea and Billy Johnson, the Titans had their first winning season in the 1970s. The early 1980s was not a great period for the team’s fortune. From 1987 through 1993 the Oilers were one of the most successful teams with payoffs each year in the AFC, but failed to make it to the Super Bowl. In 1999, Titans had a grand season, finishing with a 13–3 record and they finished one game behind the Jacksonville Jaguars for the AFC Central title. In 2000, the Titans won their third AFC Central title. Though they made an AFC Championship Game appearance in 2002 they lost to Oakland. The Titans made the 2003 playoffs and won their first-round game over the Baltimore Ravens and lost in the AFC semifinals to the New England Patriots. In 2004, a number of players suffered from injuries and many players were either traded or cut, including Derrick Mason, Samari Rolle, Kevin Carter, and others. In 2005, with the youngest ever team in the NFL including Adam Jones, Michael Roos, and receivers like Brandon Jones, Courtney Roby, and Roydell Williams, the Tennessee Titans Football team lost to Steelers. They also lost on the road to the St. Louis Rams and to their division rival, the Indianapolis Colts. The year 2006 saw Quarter Back Vince Young lead the team with straight 6 victories. However the team’s chances of getting through to the post-season ended with a defeat by New England Patriots, in a score of 40–23. Team Logo – The Old and NewWhen the team came into being in 1960 the logo was an oil rig derrick.
