They trace their roots to an 1882 team in the now defunct American Association – the ‘St. Louis Brown Stockings.’ The Browns, as they were popularly known then, joined the National League in 1892, after the American Association became bankrupt. In 1899, they were briefly known as the ‘Perfectos,’ and by 1900 had settled for their permanent name – the St. Louis Cardinals. The city is a baseball town and St Louis Cardinals tickets are a top seller. The TitlesAs Browns, they won four consecutive American Association Pennants, from 1885 to 1888. The Cardinals built themselves into a good team, and in 1926, 39 years after they had won their last League pennant as the Browns, won their first National League pennant. They carried on their good form and won their first World Series, the same year, by knocking out the favorites, the New York Yankees, in seven games. They won their next pennant in 1928, but lost the World Series to the New York Yankees, in four straight games. The Cardinals have three Eastern Division titles to their name, and after the re-organization of the divisions, won seven more National League Division titles in the Central Division. In addition, the Cardinals have 17 National League Pennants under their belt. To date, the Cardinals have won 10 World Series titles – the latest in 2006. The currently reigning World Series champions have the most World Series championships in the National League, and overall are next to the New York Yankees of the American League – with 26 World Series titles! The Ballparks Of The CardinalsAs Brown Stockings in 1882, the Cardinals started playing in Sportsman’s Park, which by 1953 was known as the Busch Stadium. This was their home until 1893, and then the same year they moved to Robison Field, which then was known as the New Sportsman’s Park. They called this Park their home until 1920,and in the meanwhile had changed their name to the Cardinals. In 1920, they moved back to the Sportsman’s Park, and stayed there up to 1966. This field is what we know today as the Busch Stadium I. From May 12, 1966 to October 19, 2005, the Cardinals made the Busch Memorial Stadium, or more commonly the Busch Stadium, their home. This was the Busch Stadium II. With the opening of the $346 million third Busch Stadium on April 4, 2006, the Cardinals moved into their latest home. They played the inaugural Major League game here on April 10, 2006, beating the Milwaukee Brewers, 6-4. The three Busch Stadiums were named in honor of August Busch – a brewing magnate - who owned the Cardinals from 1953.
