The only franchise of any major league in Oregon is the Trail Blazers, a member of the National Basketball Team (NBA). The Trail Blazers were founded in 1970 when the NBA added an expansion team. The team is owned by Paul Allen since 1988 and the team colors are red, silver, black and white.

A Brief Look At Their Career

The Portland Trail Blazers did not achieve much success in their first few years. They hired Dr. Jack Ramsay to be head coach in 1976 and under him the team had their first winning season record 49-33. The Trail Blazers team comprised of Lionel Hollins, Lloyd Neal and Dave Twardzik. This team made their first playoffs and defeated the Chicago Bulls and Denver Nuggets in the first two rounds. They then beat the favorites the Los Angeles Lakers to advance to the NBA Finals. They defeated the Philadelphia 76ers to win their first NBA Championship. It was their first playoffs and they went ahead to win their first NBA Championship.

The team continued with its winning ways in the next season until injuries hit the players. They lost the Conference semi-finals to the Seattle Supersonics. The team still made the playoffs every year till 2004 except in 1982. The Portland Trail Blazers made it back to the NBA Finals in 1990 but were defeated by the Detroit Pistons. They remained a competitive basketball team throughout their career though they didn’t win another NBA Championship.

The Trail Blazers played in two home arenas during their career. They played at the Memorial Coliseum from 1970 till 1995. After that they moved to the Rose Garden Arena where they play their home games till date.

The team hired its current head coach Nate McMillan in 2005. The Blazers also added players like Martell Webster, Linas Kleiza and Ricky Sanchez. The Blazers have been experiencing some financial difficulties for the last few years. But the team has been working hard to overcome their problems. With the current team consisting of players like Martell Webster, Joel Przybilla and Brandon Roy, they are still considered a very competitive team.
