The team was originally founded in Alberta as Alberta Oilers. However, the very next year in 1973, they changed their name to Edmonton Oilers. They joined the National Hockey League in 1979.
There are five occasions when the Oilers have won the Stanley cups. These occasions include 1984, 1985, 1987, 1988 and 1990. Besides that, they have won the Conference Championships and the division championships on seven occasions. The first division chamionship that the team won was for the World Hockey Association.

Rexall Place is a wonderful sports arena. This is the home arena for Edmonton Oilers. The stadium is located at 7424 118 Ave. N.W. Edmonton, Alberta. The stadium was constructed at a whopping cost of 19,400,000 Canadian Dollars. The stadium has been hosting various games and events, including ice hockey since 1974. The maximum capacity of this stadium is to accommodate 16,839 Oilers tickets.
Since its inception, Rexall Place has changed its name several times. When it was built, it was named as Northlands Coliseum. The arena continued with this name till 1995. From 1995 to 1998, it was known as Edmonton Coliseum. In 1998, it was renamed to Skyreach Centre. It was eventually during the middle of the 2003-04 NHL season that its name was changed to Rexall Place. The name has not been changed since then.
At present, the stadium is home to the Edmonton Oilers of the NHL, the Edmonton Rush of the NLL, and the Edmonton Oil Kings of the WHL.
