2007 was good for the Nationals tickets but not so good for the Washington Nationals. They came second to last place in the National League with a win average of .451. General Manager Jim Bowden has brought in lots of changes in the team. First, he has strengthened the outfield by adding Elijah Dukes, Garret Guzman, Willie Harris, Rob Mackowiak and Lastings Milledge to the team.

Some Facts

The Washington Nationals is a professional baseball team that is based in Washington D.C. They play in the Eastern Division of National League of the Major League Baseball. The club was formed in 1969 in Montreal, Quebec. Then they were known as the Montreal Expos. They played their home games at the Jarry Park and later shifted to the Olympic Stadium. In 2008, they will start playing at the National Park. The team is owned by Ted Lerner of Lerner Enterprises. Manny Acta is the manager for the Nationals.

The Montreal Expos were loved by their fans. Nationals tickets (then called Expos tickets) were always sold out. In 1969, the Expos had a record of 52-110 only but fans did not mind that.

Expos had little success till 1994. They had a 74-40 record and were a threat to every team; however, play had to be halted and the postseason cancelled due to strike. Fans were obviously very disappointed and this had a very bad effect on the sale of tickets. Moreover, the Expos were under major financial constraints. Players like Pedro Martinez, Larry Walker, Andres Gallaraga, Valdimir Guerrero and Moises Alou were all shipped out. Sale of Nationals tickets dropped as fans became disenchanted with the team.

Moving To Washington

In 2005, the Expos moved out of Montreal. They made Washington their new home and took up the name Washington Nationals. In 2005 and 2006, Nationals were managed by Frank Robinson, a Hall of Fame player. In 2006, they had a new manager, Manuel Acta.

Coming to 2008 season, there would be something new for the Nationals and the fans who buy Nationals tickets. They will be moving to a brand new, state-of-the-art stadium, the National Park. It has a 4,500 sq ft high-definition scoreboard. It also has a beautiful view of the Capitol. With a capacity to sit 41,000 fans, it cost $611 million to construct. Fans cannot wait to get their tickets to the National Stadium. In coming days, Washington Nationals will be facing Atlanta Braves, Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals, Florida Marlins and the New York Mets.

The Washington Nationals are very keen to do good in the 2008 season. They are hoping that Chris Marrero, team’s top offensive man, comes to form. He holds the first base position. Another player that the Nationals are relying on is Ross Detwiler. Michael Burgess, John Lannan, Garrett Mock, Collin Balester, Justin Maxwell, Tyler Clippard, and Jack McGeary are some of the other players on Nationals’ roster this season.
