The team is a member of the Northeast Division of the Eastern Conference.
History
The team was founded in the year 1917. 1917 was also the year that saw the inception of the National Hockey League. The Toronto Maple Leafs started playing with the name “Toronto.” For the next season (1918–19), the team changed its name from just “Toronto” to “Toronto Arenas”. Next year, the team changed its name again - this time for a longer period. From 1919 to February 14, 1927, the team was playing as Toronto St. Patricks. It was eventually on February 14, 1927, that the team changed to its name to Toronto Maple Leafs and since then, they have been playing their games with the same name. Stanley Cups
Being one of the oldest ice hockey teams, the Toronto Maple Leafs has the honor of winning the Stanley Cups for a record seventeen times. However, the last time when they won the Stanley Cups was for the season 1966–67. That was also the end of the golden era for the team. However, the serious decline started in July 1979. Since then, for the next twelve years, the Leafs were barely competitive. It was only during the season 1992-93 that the team could post another winning record. During this period, they could not even qualify for the playoffs for six times. The low point came in 1984-85. During this season, they finished 32 games under 500. It was the second-worst record in franchise history. During the 1990’s, the team again started performing and earned their lost fame back. However, if we talk about the recent years, the Leafs struggled in 2005-06. They were also eliminated from playoff contention. This elimination was for the first time since 1998. The Leafs again could not make the playoffs in 2006-07.
There have been dozens of players as well as builders who have been inducted Hall of Famers. Watch out your favorite players by booking your Maple Leafs tickets now.
Interestingly, the team has not won any of the conference championships so far. Also, the team has won the Division Championships for only five teams since their foundation in the year 1917.
