The Dodgers started their professional life a long time back in 1884, as the Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers in the American Association. The Previous TeamsThey played as the Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers from 1884 to 1888, and in 1889 were called the Brooklyn Bridegrooms, when a number of their players married in succession. They won their first Pennant in the American Association in 1889, and the following year joined the National League, and won their first National League Pennant. This made them the only major league baseball team, to win championships in different leagues in consecutive years and the sale of Los Angeles Dodgers tickets become a must for all fans. They played as the Bridegrooms until 1898, and had slipped down to 10th place in the League, that year. The following year, the name of the team was changed to the Brooklyn Superbas, and the team won the National League Pennants for 1899 and 1900. They were known briefly as the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1911, 1912, and 1913, and in 1914, changed the name to the Brooklyn Robins. They were at the top of their League in 1916, but lost the World Series, 1-4, to the Boston Red Sox. They lost another World Series in 1920, losing 2-5, to the Cleveland Indians. They switched back to being the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1935, and remained so until 1957, when the team relocated to LA. In this period, they lost the World Series four times to the New York Yankees, in 1947, 1949, 1952, and in 1953. They, however, won their first World Series title in 1955, beating the Yankees 4-3, though they lost the following year to the same opponents, 3-4. The Move To LA The New York City Construction Coordinator – Robert Moses, was blocking the then owner of the Brooklyn Dodgers in the 1950s – Walter O’Malley – a real estate businessman, from buying suitable land in Brooklyn to build a new Stadium for his team. He started to look elsewhere, and at the same time, LA officials were trying to lure a team to move to their city. The Dodgers were not even in their focus, at that time. However, a deal was struck and LA offered a chance to buy land for the ballpark. The Brooklyn Dodgers moved to LA after the 1957 season, and became the Dodgers. The TitlesThe Dodgers have won the following Titles: Nine Western Division Titles – All as Dodgers. 22 League Pennants – Only nine as Dodgers. Six World Series Titles – Five as Dodgers.
