Las Vegas Sports Tickets - Waiting For Major League

Click To View All Available Las Vegas Sports Tickets

Las Vegas sports tickets are only beginning to catch up now with those of other cities. This may sound odd considering the large population of the city. But there is a reason for it. The city eats, drinks, and sleeps casinos and gambling. Las Vegas is a city known for its vibrant gambling culture. The most famous sporting fields of the city are the casinos.

Unfortunately, the city does not send a team to any of the major sporting leagues in the USA, be it baseball, basketball, hockey, American league football, or soccer. Part of the blame must go to the casinos that are everywhere in the city. Fearing gambling and betting troubles, the bosses of major leagues are traditionally reluctant to take a team from the city which is famously known as the ‘Sin City’.

The Minor League Teams

What the city mainly hosts is a minor league baseball team, the Las Vegas 51s, which plays in the Pacific Coast League. The city also has a minor league hockey team, the Las Vegas Wranglers, which plays in the ECHL (which was formerly known as the East Coast Hockey League). So the response for Las Vegas sports tickets has not been exciting. But things are beginning to change now.

Waiting In The Wings

It must be stated here that the authorities of Las Vegas are making a concerted effort to bring a major league club to the city. The name of the city figures prominently when expansion plans of the leagues are announced. But somehow Las Vegas has always narrowly missed the opportunity. Take, for instance, the case of Montreal Expos, a major league baseball club that was ready to be shifted to another place in 2004. Las Vegas was one of the prime candidates for the new venue. But infrastructure facilities and the availability of a better stadium in Washington tilted the pendulum in Washington’s favor. Montreal Expos is now called Washington Nationals.

Lately talks are going on for shifting of another major league baseball club, Florida Marlins, to Las Vegas. The work of new stadiums and sporting facilities is scheduled to be completed by 2009. Once it is over the city can expect more teams and their owners to show interest in the city. If that happens, the sales of Las Vegas sports tickets will receive a fillip.

There are also media reports that the management of a National Football League (NFL) team, San Diego Chargers, is considering a possible relocation of the team to Las Vegas. There have been similar reports about the city getting a team in the next expansion of the Major League Soccer. Also the winter games of Major League Baseball are going to be held in Las Vegas. With all this coming up, the Las Vegas sports tickets are finally experiencing a boost in sales.

The NBA all-star game held in the city in 2007 was hugely successful. If that is any indication, when a major league team actually comes to the town, a majority of people will find it easier to buy their Las Vegas sports tickets online.
