Initially, it started playing as the New Orleans Jazz. They retained this name for the period from 1974 to 1979. It was eventually in 1979 that the team changed its name to the current one - Utah Jazz.

Since its inception in 1974, the team has not won any of the NBA championships. However, the team has won two conference titles in 1997 and 1998. Utah Flash handles the NBA D-League affiliate for the Utah Jazz.

"Pistol" Pete Maravich has been the only Basketball Hall-Of-Famers from this team. Some of the notable players from the Jazz include Bryon Russell, Truck Robinson, Greg Ostertag, Donyell Marshall, Jeff Malone, Aaron James, Rickey Green, John Drew, Raja Bell, Thurl Bailey, etc.

After a series of disappointing performances, during the 2007 season, the Jazz developed a very deep and well-rounded team. Okur developed a reputation as a great clutch shooter. During this season, he was also selected to the All-Star game. This season, the Jazz clinched the playoffs as the fourth seed with a 51-31 record.

There have been many rivals for the Jazz during its 28 years of existence. During the 1990s, the Houston Rockets had been a heated conference rivals for the Jazz. However, after 1998, the two teams have not played against each other in any game. However, the next season does have some good games in store between these two teams.


EnergySolutions Arena

EnergySolutions Arena is a multi-purpose indoor stadium. It is located in 301 W South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah. This sports arena was opened on October 4, 1991. The ground was broken on May 22, 1990 for its construction. The overall construction cost of the stadium was $93 million USD. Larry H. Miller is the owner and operator of this stadium. The maximum number of Jazz tickets that can be sold on this field is 19,911.

The former names of this sports arena are Delta Center (1991-2006) and Salt Lake Ice Center (2002 Winter Olympics). Besides being the home arena for Jazz, EnergySolutions Arena has also been the home stadium for Utah Blaze (AFL) (2006-present), Utah Starzz (WNBA) (1997-2002), Utah Grizzlies (IHL) (1995-1997), Salt Lake Golden Eagles (IHL) (1991-1994), and Utah Basketball League Salt Lake Devils October 2005-present).
