The Jaguars are also known as The Jags. The team is owned by Wayne Weaver and their head coach is Jack Del Rio. The Jaguars were founded in 1995 and they play in the South division of the American Football Conference in the National Football League. Their home field is the Jacksonville Municipal Stadium which was also known as ALLTEL Stadium from the period 1997 to 2006.

Their History

When the NFL announced their decision to expand and add two more franchises in 1991, the city was considered to have the least chance of getting it. Their bid was held up with some uncertainty and disorder till the ownership of the group went to J. Wayne Weaver who took over the bidding process. The NFL announced in 1993 that the first franchise to be added was Charlotte. The second was almost certainly going to be St Louis and they even had T-shirts made with the team name St Louis Stallions on them. The NFL surprised all by eventually naming Jacksonville as the 30th franchise.

The Jaguars started their inaugural season in 1995 and ended with a record of 4-12. The next year they were much better. They won six out of the last seven games and in doing so they attained the 5th seed in the AFC playoffs. Their first playoff game was against the Buffalo Bills which they won 30-27. They surprisingly went on to win their second game which was against the Denver Broncos who were the top seed. They won the game 30-27 in what was considered one of their finest hours as the Broncos were considered unbeatable.

In 1998, the Jaguars became the first NFL expansion team to make it to the playoffs twice in its first four seasons. Their 1999 season was very successful as they ended with a record of 14-2, which was to be the best season record in NFL history. In 2000, the Jaguars were cited to be the favorites to win the AFC championships but were defeated by the Tennessee Titans. They ended their season with a record of 15-3, and interestingly all three losses were at the hands of the Titans.

The AFC championships kept eluding the Jacksonville Jaguars right through the next few years. They made it to some of the playoffs but lost every time. In fact, the Jaguars had won two AFC championships when they were part of the Central division in 1998 and 1999, but as a member of the South division, they were unable to win. They are among the only three teams with the Houston Texans and the New Orleans Saints never to have played in the Super Bowl or any other NFL championship.

They started their own hall of fame in 2006 called “Pride of the Jaguars” in which Tony Boselli was the only one inducted.
