The Phoenix Coyotes is a professional ice hockey team that plays in the National Hockey League. The team is a member of the Pacific Division of the Western Conference. They were founded in 1972. The team is based in the Phoenix suburb of Glendale, Arizona. The team was founded as the Winnipeg Jets of the World Hockey Association. They later joined the NHL in the year 1979.

The Coyotes have also not won any of the Stanley Cups, Conference Championships, and Division Championships. The peak time for the team was in the mid-1990s and early 2000s. Since the year 2002, they have not made the playoffs. The last time they qualified for the Stanley cup playoffs was in 2001-02. This time, they lost in Conference Quarterfinals by 1-4 to Sharks.

There have been four Hall of Famers from this team, including Mike Gartner (inducted 1983), Dale Hawerchuk (inducted 1986), Serge Savard (inducted 2001), and Bobby Hull (inducted 2001). The team has also retired four numbers, which include 99 Wayne Gretzky, 25 Thomas Steen, 10 Dale Hawerchuk, and 9 Bobby Hull.


Phoenix Coyotes Reality Byte

Among the former WHA teams, the Coyotes are the only team that could not reach any of the Stanley Cup Finals. It is also the only team among the oldest NHL franchise not to do so. Howler is the official mascot for the team. The franchise introduced this mascot on October 15, 2005. Bob Francis is the only player to win an individual award from this team. He was awarded with Jack Adams Award in 2001-02.

Jobing.com Arena is a sports arena located in 9400 West Maryland Avenue, Glendale, Arizona. It is ideally located across the street from University of Phoenix Stadium. The stadium has been the home arena for the Phoenix Coyotes. The team moved into the arena in late 2003. They relocated from Winnipeg in 1996 in the America West Arena (its current name is US Airways Center) in downtown Phoenix.

It was opened in 2003 while the ground was broken for its construction in 2002. Its overall construction cost is estimated to $180 million. The stadium was formerly known as Glendale Arena (2003-2006).
