Tampa Bay football tickets have been a most-wanted item for football lovers for a while. For many fans, the team is the ultimate dark horse of the NFL and in many ways they really live up to their swashbuckling team name.
The Bucs are based in Tampa, Florida and are part of the National Football League and the South Division of the National Football Conference. So far, they have won the Super Bowl once. They also have five division wins and one conference win to their name. Their home turf is the Raymond James Stadium.
A Surprising Start
The Bucs began as an expansion team in 1976 and were named in honor of Tampa's own Gasparilla Pirate Festival. Like most expansion teams, the Bucs got off to a winless start but enthusiasm and sales of tickets were high. They would manage to pull their first wins in 1977 and while the fans were more than pleased, the team had much bigger things up their sleeve.
In 1979, the Bucs stunned the entire NFL by winning five consecutive games. This feat landed them right on the cover of Sports Illustrated and sales of tickets were going through the roof. There were only four games left in the season they needed just one more win to make the playoffs. With such a strong team, a win seemed in the bag and prior to their first game, the management smeared STP on the goal post pads so they wouldn't be ripped off during the post-game celebrations.
Touching Down
While the Bucs didn't win that particular game, they did manage to assert their playing power on the field. By the eighties, sales of Tampa Bay Buccaneers tickets spiked and the team picked up a new name- The Cardiac Kids. This was due to the fact that the team would clinch many of their winning games right in the last minutes of play. By 1982, however, things were beginning to take a downward turn for the team. After losing their star player Doug Williams, the Bucs seemed to collapse completely, notching up a record of 2-14. But that was just the beginning. The Bucs would go on to have a 14 consecutive season losing streak.
Still, sales of Tampa Bay Buccaneers tickets remained high as the faith of their fans managed to carry them through some very dark times. It wouldn't be until 1996 that things began to change for the Bucs. The following year, the team seemed to be back in form when they made the playoffs. There was definitely an overall improvement in the team's game but they began to come under attack for their offensive line up. While the defense was being muscled up, the offense was weak. This would all change in 2000 when new coaching tactics helped the team rake in their highest scoring season till date.
