History

In 1970, the Seattle Pilots came to Milwaukee and came to be known as the Milwaukee Brewers. They were the first Major League Baseball team in Milwaukee since the Braves left it. Obviously the fans were delighted and they showed it by buying Brewers tickets and cheering their home team. Tommy Harper was on the team that year. He is known as the first AL player to steal 30 bases and hit 30 home runs.

In 1973, the Brewers tasted their first great victory with a ten game win streak. However, they missed the playoffs. Hank Aaron joined the Milwaukee Braves and went on to hit home run 755 before retiring. He played 14 seasons for the Milwaukee Braves and two seasons with Milwaukee Brewers.

The first winning season for the Milwaukee Brewers came in 1978. This was mainly due to a group called “Bambi’s Bombers” who dominated hitting. Moose Haas of the Brewers made headlines for his 14 strike outs against the Yankees. In 1979, Paul Molitar and Gorman Thomas led the Bombers. Molitar scored a .332 average. In 1980, these Bombers gave Milwaukee Braves their best hitting numbers. The team led in home runs, runs, total bases and slugging percentage. With three players with 100+RBI in two consecutive years, Brewers tickets became highly sought after.

In 1981, the Brewers made it to the playoffs. 1982 turned out to be better than the previous season. Yount was their top hitter and also won the Most Valuable Player title. They went on to face the St. Louis in the World Series. Unfortunately the Brewers lost to them. 1983 season saw several milestones being achieved. Yount and Cecil Copper both got their 1,500th hit. Dan Sutton marked his 3,000th strike out. In 1989, Yount again got the AL MVP title.

In 1994, the Brewers went for a complete revamp. New players were added. The team got new uniforms, logos, and even a new division. However, for the fans who had bought Brewers tickets 1994 was a bad season. The team performed very badly. In 1997, the Milwaukee Brewers moved to the National League.
