Popularly known as the D-Backs or the Snakes, the Diamondbacks, based in Phoenix, AZ are a Major League Baseball (MLB) team. They play in the Western Division of the National League. A group headed by Jerry Colangelo - General Manager and a minority owner of the Phoenix Suns, a wildly popular and successful NBA franchise – was awarded a franchise on March 9, 1995, to play in the 1998 season. Their only World Series title was against the then reigning champions – the New York Yankees – whom they beat 4-3, to become the youngest ever expansion franchise to win the World Series. No jersey number from the Diamondbacks franchise has been retired as yet, except # 42 for Jackie Robinson of the Brooklyn Dodgers, whose number has been retired throughout all Major League Baseball. As yet, no one from the Diamondbacks has been inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Since they started playing in the MLB, the Diamondbacks have made their home at the Chase Field, which was then known as the Bank One Ballpark. This ground is also popularly known as The BOB. The ballpark was then owned by Bank One of Chicago. When Bank One merged with Chase from New York, the change of name was announced on September 23, 2005. After the SkyDome in Toronto, the Chase Field was the second MLB stadium to have a retractable roof, though now there are others in Houston, Milwaukee, and in Seattle. The Chase Field, however, happens to be the first ballpark to have a retractable roof and natural grass. For the first time since they started playing, the Diamondbacks have redesigned their uniforms for the 2007 season. The team has dropped the historical purple and traditional Arizonan copper and turquoise colors. The stylized snake logo in the form of a ‘D’ has been slightly re-designed, where as its distinctive ‘A’ design is unaltered, except for the color change.
